Finance Minister Matia Kasaija Meets World Bank Executive Director D. Taufila Nyamadzabo
Finance Minister Matia Kasaija has met the World Bank, Africa Group 1, Executive Director Dr. Taufila Nyamadzabo who is currently on a mission in Uganda ( 30th January to 4th February 2022).
The Minister expressed gratitude to the World Bank for the support extended to Uganda especially in the areas of agriculture, housing, transport, water, social services (health and education), private sector development and energy among others.
The Minister also on behalf of the Government of Uganda welcomed the recent approvals by the Bank to support the refugees, COVID-19 related activities, Uganda Secondary Education and Expansion Project, the Investment for Industrial Transformation and Employment Project (INVITE), and Uganda Digital Acceleration Project.
Among the issues discussed was the overall World Bank Portfolio Performance including the 27 ongoing projects under the World Bank portfolio of which 21 are national while 6 are regional.
Regarding the allocation and approval of IDA19 resources with the closing window on 30th June 2022,the World Bank team urged government to fast track the approval of the projects lined up to benefit from this funding.
The projects include; Electricity Access Scale up Project under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Investment for Industrial Transformation and Employment Project (INVITE), Uganda Digital Acceleration Project under ICT and Uganda COVID-19 Response and Emergency Preparedness Project.
