Groundbreaking Ceremony Held For Construction of Statistics House Entebbe Office Block
Uganda has taken a significant step towards strengthening its statistical capacity with the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Statistics House Entebbe Office Block.
The new facility is expected to enhance the production, management, and use of official statistics to support evidence-based planning, policy formulation, and decision-making. It will provide a modern working environment for innovation, training, data management, and coordination of key statistical activities.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Henry Musasizi, commended the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) for its contribution to national development through the provision of reliable data. He emphasized the importance of completing the project on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
The Minister noted that the facility is fully financed by the government of Uganda and it will strengthen Uganda’s statistical system and pledged government support towards Uganda’s bid to host the East African Statistics Bureau at the new site.
The Chairperson of the UBOS Board of Directors, Dr. Albert Byamugisha, expressed appreciation to the Government for funding the project and highlighted its strategic importance. He explained that the facility will host key units, including a Data Centre, Data Science Hub, Statistics Innovation Hub, Training Centre, conference facilities, and offices for coordinating censuses, surveys, and regional operations.
UBOS Executive Director and Chief Statistician, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, described the project as a new chapter in the Bureau’s journey towards becoming a world-class National Statistics Office. He noted that the facility will improve operational capacity, promote innovation, create employment opportunities, and support the delivery of quality statistical information for national development.
Representing ROKO Construction, Chairman Mark Koehler reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering the project safely, on schedule, and to the highest standards. He emphasized that the Statistics House represents an investment in Uganda’s future by providing the infrastructure needed to strengthen data-driven development.
The ceremony brought together Government officials, UBOS leadership, contractors, and stakeholders, who reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the successful completion of the project and advancing Uganda’s role as a leader in official statistics in the region.
